Very sorry to see this - Russell looks like a great dog and I'll bet he loved living with all of you.

I hope he is running free through the woodlot, dragging his leash and wagging his tail in some other place a lot like the great life he had with his family.

I'm sorry for his humans though.

Word verification: worsee (reeely worse?)

Our Ground Time Here Will Be Brief

Blue landing lights make
nail holes in the dark.
A fine snow falls. We sit
on the tarmac taking on
the mail, quick freight,
trays of laboratory mice,
coffee and Danish for
the passengers.

Wherever we're going
it's Monday morning.
Wherever we're coming from
is Mother's lap.
On the cloud-pack above, strewn
as loosely as parsnip
or celery seeds, lie
the souls of the unborn:

my children's children's
children and their father.
We gather speed for the last run
and lift off into the weather.

I'm sorry, Greg. We measure a dog's life against our own, and it's never enough. But I suppose they figure the important stuff out more quickly than we do. They pack in a lot of love and affection in their time on earth.
