Knockin' Around the Yard

We thought someone was knocking at our door.

No; it was a female Pileated Woodpecker sampling the delectable treats in our yard.

Although such sightings mean nothing, I always take them a sign of good luck.

Note: I did not take this photo, but trust me, I heard--and saw--the bird.

When I hear the woodpecker in the woods near my house, I imagine her writing some kind of a wild poem about bugs and bark. Thanks for the photo. I enjoy visiting your blog.

They are really exciting to see. There are a couple I see regularly up northeast of Grayling. Maybe the same two, or maybe there are more. It thrills me, always.
