Spring Gardening Tips From Old Uncle Greg, Continued

#2. Remember that raking wet leaves is like fighting an insurgency. To avoid discouraging the cadres, it is sometimes best to fashion a new narrative. For example: Our goal was not to rake the leaves; our goal was to distribute a slimy brown mulch across the length and breadth of the yard.

Our old neighbor tried EVERY YEAR to burn his piles of wet leaves. Oh, and also a plastic tarp, plastic lawn chairs, discarded paint cans, etc.

I advise NONE of the above. Unless, of course, you don't like your neighbors.

The best thing about leaf raking is the exercise you get and the end result is worth admiring - that is until the wind stirs and the next batch of leaves falls like confetti.
