Pizza Day in English 113

Today was my students first day back from Spring Break. On the original syllabus, drafts of their fourth papers were due today. When I realized that this would mean they would have homework to do over Break, I told them that we would delay having them turn in their drafts until Wednesday and that today I would show a movie and buy them all pizza.

So we watched Casablanca (1942) in class and yes, ate pizza. It was fun, though it must be the squillionth time I have seen the film. I don't think any of my students had seen it before, however, and seeing films like Casablanca should be part of everyone's education.

Aren't I the nicest professor ever?

My students not only had a paper due today, the first day back from break, but I gave an in-class midterm.

Aren't I the meanest teacher ever?

I actually had lunch with an emeritus professor yesterday who did this kind of thing for us regularly. He was a prince of a man and you are too.

There are people who have never seen Casablanca? I think I have seen it into double if not treble figures Greg. I would quite like to be one of your students - better than handing an essay in any day.

ughhh. I would have killed to have watched Casablanca at Lang. We were always watching movies about Malcom McLauren and Sacco and Vanzetti.

Yeah, You are the best! I guess as a psychologist I would have to ask about the obvious anger and vindictiveness of profs who do the opposite of you. Why be mean, does it make them feel better to be so power happy and an obvious A-hole?
I am a much older honors student who looks at some profs that are the same age as me, like, what haven't lived a life, would you want the same to be done to you?

Kindness and understanding goes a long way in this world, but you know that, that is why you are at least empathetic to your students.

Kids are only young once, let them enjoy their spring break. geeze! haha!

Gosh, I'm jealous. Wish I was still in your class!

It's English 113, Amanda. If I didn't buy a pizza and show a movie once in a while, it would be a semester of pure hell.

Face it--you went to Eugene Commie College at The New School of Commies: a Commie college full of Commie professors and Commie students, and you are a Commie!

No you didn't. Seriously? Can you come to my classroom and do the same for my students?
