Greg - what a beautiful poem - I absolutely love it. I particularly like your perceptiveness - for example we only hear crows in Winter. You are quite right. I live near to a very large colony of rooks and I never see them in summer. In Winter, when they come home to roost, flying high on still days, bowling along at hedge=height on windy days, I hear them coming. I love that word plangent - so evocative. This is a poem written by a very observant man.
